Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university, but course content and credit hours should be equivalent to those at Oklahoma State University. Students should select a college or university which meets his/her academic goals, financial circumstances, and family responsibilities. Applicants are not required to have a B.S. or B.A., but are urged to consider their overall education and future when planning his/her undergraduate enrollment.
There is no preferred field of study for an undergraduate major; however, a major consideration in a student's choice of an undergraduate degree program is his/her related interests. Examples include animal science, biology, zoology, and physiology. In order to be a qualified applicant for the College of Veterinary Medicine, a student must have a grade point average of at least 2.80 (A = 4.0) in the prerequisite coursework in college.
Students spend 3-4 years in undergraduate college studies and four years in the professional school for a total of seven to eight years to earn their DVM degree. Completion of prerequisites are required to apply to the College of Veterinary Medicine.
